Phil Lees Mechanical Engineer

A new valve was purchased in 2022 and has remained in storage since. Although company policy requires valves stocked for over six months to be tested before use, this valve was still new and under warranty. A quote was received for £13,697. However, thanks to Phil Lees’ intervention, the engineer successfully challenged the need for testing, as the warranty covered the valve, resulting in the cost being removed.

Saving £13,697!

In a 2024 Procurement Analysis Report, Jason identified Trillium was charging well above market rates for Dunbar EFWP changeout kit parts. Thanks to Jason,  existing stock was used and cheaper fasteners were sourced from another vendor elsewhere,

Cutting the kit cost from £84k to £21k.

Sammie Fraser Maintenance Engineer Smartroom - CNS

A noise issue reported for valve 0523-V1001 led to an offshore inspection request. Upon review, this was a ‘special’ type valve in super duplex, therefore new the cost would be excessive. After consulting with the site team, Sammie confirmed that a new valve was not required. The work order has been closed with no further action needed.

This resulted in £50,000 worth of savings.

Andre successfully negotiated the removal of a 20% re-stocking fee from Redwing for unused and uncollected PPE.

This resulted in a cost saving of approximately £13,448.

APRIL

Jim Geary Mechanical Supervisor - Elgin

Celeros were identified to mob offshore for the Condy Booster Pump work on Elgin. Jim proactively challenged the need for vendor support, highlighting that PBS already had the required in-house expertise.

Following this, the TEP Lead agreed, and the vendor mobilisation was cancelled—avoiding unnecessary external costs.

This saved an estimated £18,500!

Whilst conducting a safety stock review, Rachael identified that this MM was not required to be held as safety stock. A Flowmeter was going to be changed out back in 2022 but was decided against for commercial reasons.

This saved an estimated £234,528.60!

Dean Smith
GMOC Support Team Lead

Dean reassessed the CPF South Crane sheeve change out and identified an alternative method to carry out the job. This method removed the requirement for Scaffolding, which would have consisted of a team of 3 Scaffolders for a 14-day trip.

This saved an estimated £23,000 and reduced the crane out of service time to 3.5 days, compared to an estimate of 14+ days.

FEBRUARY

Following Survitec’s recommendations to replace lifeboat grab links every 5 years quoted at £3.2k per link with Elgin needing 5, Ryan found 3 old uncertified links on the platform. These parts were sent to First Integrated who blasted, tested and painted them for £250 each. These will be installed in place of the ones needing replacement which will then be sent to be tested and certified giving the full amount required plus usable spare. Through Ryan’s approach, changeout plan will be altered allowing potential future savings. 

This saved an estimated £14,750.00!
